The Importance of 4 Weeks: Trust the Process
Hey, I’m Mulu - founder of V&Me and mum of three.
I know firsthand how stressful weaning can feel. One day your baby is curious about a new food, the next they’re refusing it completely. It’s enough to make you question everything! But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: you have to give it 4 weeks.
When I started weaning my first, I had no idea that it can take 10+ tries before a baby accepts a new flavour. I’d offer something once, he'd turn his nose up, and I’d assume he didn’t like it. But with my second, I stuck with it.
Kept offering, kept exposing - and the difference was huge.
Here’s what to expect in the 4 weeks (from my experience and lots of our customers!)
- Week 1: Lots of new tastes—some they love, some they spit straight back out. Totally normal.
- Week 2: They start recognizing flavours and textures, even if they don’t finish everything.
- Week 3: You’ll notice fewer refusals and a little more curiosity.
- Week 4: The magic happens! They’re eating more, accepting new things, and developing a broader palate.
I get it. It’s easy to doubt the process when meals get rejected. But trust me, week 4 changes everything.
Stick with it, keep exposing them to variety, and before you know it, you’ll have a little one who’s excited about food.
Let’s do this together!
